Patients from around Manchester are coming to Mossley Dental Care and many of these orthodontic cases are treated without taking healthy teeth out. Mr Winston feels that whenever possible a non-extraction philosopy should be employed. There are a few reasons for this:
First of all your teeth are important to you and will hopefully last you the rest of your life so why remove two or four healthy teeth if it is avoidable. Most people are born with either 28 or 32 adult teeth and this is how nature intended it!
In addition to this if teeth are taken out to create space for crooked teeth it normally provides too much space which means space is left over when the teeth are aligned. A lengthy period of space closure is then normally required which increases the overall length of time that the braces are on. Non extraction treatments are normally quicker than extraction treatments.
Lastly if treatment is undertaken without removing teeth then space can be created with expansion of the side teeth to create space which gives a really nice full and wide smile which people prefer.
Sometimes extractions are unavoidable but are only used in less than 5% of the cases that Mr Winston treats.
Mr Winston uses a number of non-extraction tooth straightening methods for both adults and children. The most common fixed treatments are Six Month Smiles, Lingual six month braces and Damon braces. Removable non-extraction methods also include Invisalign and the Inman aligner.
If you live in or near Manchester and are interested in tooth straightening with invisible braces a comprehensive orthodontic service is offered at Mossley Dental. Mr Winston has a Master of Science postgraduate degree in Orthodontics and the practice is British Dental Association “Good Practice” approved.
Mossley Dental Care is just off junction 23 of the M60 and is only a short drive from Manchester.
