“We love it when patients tell us how their new smile has changed their lives. They all without exception seem more confident and assured in themselves.”

These braces are a major step forward in the field of orthodontics. Developed in the USA they produce beautiful full smiles very often without the need for tooth extractions. In recent years there has been a realisation that the treatment approach in orthodontics affects the facial balance and not just the teeth. This approach was therefore developed with treatment planning which aims to provide beautiful balanced facial profiles as well as a full broad smile. This is obviously crucially important in a growing child and Mr Winston employs a “face driven” treatment planning philosophy.

If you are interested in state of the art orthodontics for you or your children Damon braces might be for you.

Traditional braces

Traditional braces require elastic ties to hold the arch wires in place which increases frictional resistance and slows down the tooth movement. Damon braces eliminate the need for these ties because it utilises a sliding mechanism (not unlike a trap door) over the bracket which allows the wire to be secured to the bracket without the need for ties which means that forces are lighter and more comfortable, tooth movement is quicker, and the appliances are more hygienic and easier to clean.

In addition to this at Mossley Dental Care wherever possible, Mr Winston uses a non-extraction approach to align crooked teeth. Sometimes tooth extractions are unavoidable but thanks to the Damon system which provides beautiful full smiles, space is often created for all the teeth without the need for extractions.

Damon brackets

Damon brackets are beneficial for patients of all ages. Children benefit from them because the system works with a growing face and moves the teeth in such a way that support is provided to the mid-face giving not just a beautiful smile but a full smile and balanced profile. Adult patients benefit from them because of the low forces and can now enjoy faster treatment than ever before. Damon brackets are also indicated for patients with periodontal (gum) problems due to the light forces they deliver. As a result all of our patients’ treatments can now be finished in less time, with fewer visits and far less discomfort than ever before

FAQs

How much are Damon braces?

Every case is different and the cost of braces depends on the complexity of the case and whether we are using metal or ceramic Damon braces. The ceramic version is slightly more expensive.

Prices can be discussed when you attend for a free consultation and we are confident that we offer a high quality service and great value for money. We also offer flexible payment plans to help you spread the cost of your treatment.

Do Damon braces hurt?

Damon braces are very gentle. In fact the forces used with Damon braces are often less than conventional braces. We can’t say there is absolutely no discomfort but after about two weeks of treatment you will be used to the brace and your orthodontic treatment is quite comfortable.

Initially there will be a mild ache but nothing severe, and in addition you will find that you may need to adapt by switching to soft foods for a few days. Most patients are prepared for this and are excited to get started with their teeth straightening journey, so think of the great results and try not to worry too much about temporary discomfort.

How long do I have to wear Damon braces?

Treatment times can vary from anything between a few months to a few years depending on the complexity of the case. If we need to take teeth out prior to fitting braces then treatment can take longer, but the great thing about Damon braces is that extractions are only necessary in extreme cases.

Orthodontic patients at Mossley Dental Care receive a high quality service and we are proud of our rapid treatment times. Many cases can take between six and nine months, but it is impossible to say how long your tooth straightening will take without seeing you in person so we can assess your needs.

How do braces work?

Mr Winston uses modern techniques to move teeth into their desired position which involves gentle forces which are comfortable and result in rapid tooth movement. Orthodontics has been around for over a hundred years, and thankfully braces have changed a lot in recent years improving success, length of treatment and comfort. At Mossley Dental Care we have stayed abreast of current knowledge and best practice.

Gentle forces using fixed or removable braces can move teeth up, down, in or out depending on what is required. Mr Winston uses all major teeth straightening systems including Invisalign and fixed braces such as clear ceramic braces, Damon braces or Six Month Smiles.

Normally braces need gentle adjustment about once per month until treatment is complete.

Does Invisalign Work?

nvisalign is just one of a number of orthodontic systems that we use at Mossley Dental Care and Mr Winston can recommend which system would be best for your requirements. However, some braces are better than others at certain tooth movements. For example, Invisalign finds it difficult when you have very rotated canines, in which case invisible fixed braces would be more suitable, but in many cases Invisalign can do a great job in straightening your teeth.

Invisalign is a removable brace which means you need to remember to take in in and out your mouth when you eat and clean your teeth. If you don’t think you would be good at doing that then perhaps a fixed brace such as a lingual brace would be better for you. However, if you would prefer to be able to take your brace out on occasions then Invisalign may suit you very well.

How to fix crooked teeth?

Crooked teeth can be corrected with either fixed or removable appliances. We see many patients (both adults and children) at Mossley Dental Care who have crooked or crowded teeth, increased or reverse overjets and overbites. Some patients simply want to improve the appearance of their smile and other patients want to fix restrictive or troublesome bite problems. Either way, we empathise, understand and will endeavour to provide whatever help we can.

Whatever your requirements, Mr Winston can treat mild to complex orthodontic cases using a range of treatment options.

Modern braces can be invisible and work very quickly. There is no age limit to having your teeth straightened, so if you are considering orthodontic treatment then contact our reception and arrange a free no obligation consultation to discuss your options.
